This book review had me battling with myself over how many stars to give. Normally I have a definite decision made in my head between 2 or 3 stars…..not this time.
Let me explain. This book started out with a promising premise. Healing magic , a dangerous disease, magical beings all rolled into one book.
The struggle is that this book felt like a mix of at least 2 books I have read recently. The magic very similar to The Last Bloodcarver, and the love triangle/ the twist very ACOTAR.
I might have been able to overlook all that except the characters felt undeveloped when compared to the others. There were no real meaningful interactions between anyone, but we are supposed to believe the bonding? Every single EVER plays a stereotypical character that could be exchanged for anyone. Added to all that…….probably because of all that to be fair…….i saw the twist coming from the second we meet the Evers. And had zero doubt of the outcome for the entire book.
If you’ve read this far, know that there is only one spicy scene in this book. So if you’re not a fan of spice you can just skip over it. If you’re looking for a steamy read, you will be disappointed.
A lot of people love this read. And a lot of people really will are going to read and love it. So this perhaps goes out to those of us jaded by romansty/fantasy books that don’t quite bring the magic.
Overall I had to go with my instinct. I had to give it 2.5 stars as I firmly feel that it is slightly higher than a two for me. I just couldn’t round it up to 3.
I received a ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.

I hope everyone reads this book! After reading it I have a feeling this is going to be big. It’s slow burn with bouts of action, culminating in such a great ending (total cliffhanger though we absolutely need book 2 like right now).
Love the magic system of threadmending, and the prologue at the start grabs you immediately. There’s romance and a touch of spice but the character build made this book. And c’mon gotta love Rorik. Might be my book of the month /top ten of the year.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperVoyager for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

✨What it is about:
Edira is a threadmender with the power to heal, but it comes at a personal cost. When her brothers fall ill, she’s drawn into the mysterious Fernglove family’s world, where she works with the head of the family, Orin to find a cure. But as secrets unravel and her attraction to Orin grows, Edira must decide who to trust and what she’s willing to sacrifice to save her loved ones.✨
💭My thoughts:
This is the first in book in The Threadmender Chronicles & was unique, magical, eerie, and fun.It starts slow, but quickly picks up. Nothing is what it seems, and you’ll never guess what’ll happen next. The world building is done well, and the magic system is easy to understand. The vivid details of the story will make you feel like you are right there next to the characters! Edira is forced to navigate the personal sacrifice that comes with her abilities, and faces many decisions while in the middle of a group whose intensions are unknown. Her magical powers to heal come at the cost of her own life threads,so she never really knows when a healing will end her life.It was all so intense! The romance takes you by surprise in more ways than one too. It doesn’t end in an exact cliffhanger, but you get an idea of what to expect in the next story.
🎧The narrators Alexandra Hunter and Stephen Dexter did a great job letting us in the internal struggles of the characters. I hope Stephen gets to narrate the next book too,and we get more directly from his point of view because one chapter wasn’t enough! His narration felt so real, and true to Rorik’s passionate nature 💖.

An excruciating slow burn. A magic system that puts you through all the emotions. Enemies to Lovers.
Edira, our FMC, is exhausting. Her history. Her sacrifices to help others. A true heroine. Of course, there are times you want to throttle her. But you get over it. Orin, the MMC, I'm still questioning. But his sisters .... horrible.
The first part of what is sure to become a epic Gothic Fantasy Duology. I'd highly recommend.
