Review:
There are many mentions of fans of ACOTAR enjoying this book with rot and gothic vibes, and they are absolutely correct. You will look to start enjoying bugs (possibly) and the book has lots of twists and turns. I did overall enjoy the book but felt there were a few plot holes and difficulties that the FMC would not have been able to obtain without a critical piece of information received later on in the book. Regardless, I will still be reading the second book as I enjoyed the book.
Bottom Line: If you like Gothic Fantasies, you will enjoy this book. However, there will be some plot issues. If that bothers you, this might not be the right book for you.

Grateful for my first chance to read an ARC.
I enjoyed some elements of this book, especially the unique magic system. The Evers instead of Fae was an interesting take on fantasy. The use of blight made for a good common foe. There are gothic elements to the writing that I wished were leaned into a bit more. Looking forward to the second book in the duology to learn more about its origins.
I had a hard time loving the characters. While the flaws in the characters were important to the plot, I found some of them annoying.

Firstly, big thank you to Netgalley and Titan for the opportunity to read an eARC.
In House of Blight we follow Edira who is a threadmender, a rare magical ability that allows her to heal others but at a cost to her own life. When her brothers' lives are threatened with the blight, Edira has to choose between saving them by working for the Evers, whom she hates, or letting her brothers die.
I really enjoyed this book! The magic system felt so unique and the Evers were a fun take on the usual "Fae". The writing was easy to read and the twists and turns kept me on my toes throughout the book. Full or morally grey characters you don't know who to trust!
I do wish the author had leant into the edgier aspects of the story over the romance. This could have been a really chilling read if we had learnt more about the magic system and the focus was on the darker aspects rather than romance.
However, the atmospheric setting, unique magic and original characters made for a very entertaining read. Very keen to see what happens in book 2!

Thank you so much, Epic Tastemakers and NetGalley for this free book in exchange for my honest review.

Oh wow! This surprised me in the best way.
Book: This story follows a threadmender, Edira, who possesses powers to heal others at the cost of her own life. When her brothers suddenly contract blight, the devastating disease spreading across the lands, she strikes a deal with the head of the estate, an Ever named Orin, in an attempt to cure it.
What I liked:
I loved the disease plot line. I found it very interesting! I was able to guess part of the plot and character motivations early on but the way it was delivered was both shocking and amazing!
What I did not like:
The beginning felt like it dragged on quite a bit, but after a certain point, the story picked up until I couldn’t put my kindle down. I did not connect to the main character early on, but by the end I became more neutral and even half in awe of her. I look forward to seeing where her character goes.
Next book thoughts:
I hope to see certain characters again.

this pretends to be a standard romantasy for the full first third of the book but it really starts to pick up at the halfway point and the last third is a WILD ride in a cool af way. wish a developmental editor had been a little stricter on the author and made her cut some of the lust-at-first-sight so that the plot stayed closer at hand. but romantasy just likes to bully me by having good ideas stuck behind dumb MCs too busy making heart eyes, so frankly this is pretty well done
the body horror is constant, and in a GROSS way. very much uhhh like blisters and spores and such? rather than gore. just an fyi
hey Maxym this is a random nitpick but i am begging you to find another way to describe "capping" powers because it was too many times.
FMC's magic reminds me of the Thread magic of the Truthwitch books, but in an interesting compare and contrast way! made me wanna re-read that series lol
looking forward to a sequel!

House of Blight is the first book in a duology. It is the perfect dark gothic fantasy romance! I had a good time with this book from start to finish.
Edira is a threadmender who can use her power to heal others, but at a cost. Every time she uses her abilities, her own life shortens. When her brothers fall ill, she sees no other option than to accept help from the handsome Ever immortal, Orin. He wisks her off to his magical estate, where she soon learns that things are not as they appear.
This book was so wonderfully written. The imagery was spot on. The characters were well developed and easily relatable and likeable (or unlikeable, in some cases).
I would highly recommend this book, especially if you are a fan of:
-gothic fantasy
-eerie, dark settings
-powerful, magical immortals
-slowburn romance

If you enjoy gothic romantasy with a slight love triangle full of tension and secrets, I would highly recommend this book.
The world building was pretty on point, and the characters were easy to fall in love with.
The magic in the world was truly interesting, and the story kept me guessing right to nearly the end. I already cant wait for the next book!!
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC
