There’s a Cherokee legend. An elder tells his grandson about the battle that rages inside every person.” “The two wolves.” “That’s right. One wolf is anger and fear and paranoia and cruelty. The other is kindness, humility, compassion, serenity. And the boy asks his grandfather, ‘Which wolf wins?’ You remember the answer?” “‘The one you feed.’” “That’s right. Our challenge?” Jack folds his cloth napkin, wipes a smudge of Alfredo from the edge of his plate. Then he looks directly into Evan’s eyes. “Feed both.”

Excellent thriller along the lines of the movies John Wick, The Equalizer, and the Bournes. It also reminded me of Trevanian's great [b:Shibumi|1059|Shibumi|Trevanian|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388187747l/1059._SY75_.jpg|1326919]. Lots of twists and turns, action, shocking developments, and a hero you like, admire, and root for. And not only for his physical survival but for his emotional development as well. It has lots of other things including humor (a bit). The ending promises a return of many characters both good and evil in subsequent books. I guarantee I will be reading on.

Pretty solid action adventure / mystery / whatever you would call this. A character was empathetic and interesting, the writing is super beach readingesque which was perfect for sitting on the beach and overall it was an enjoyable story.

Fat paced thriller about a young boy recruited to learn all about fighting, and attacks, to work as a vigilante of sorts. after several years, he ventures out on his own to assist when needed. Then something goes wrong, and Evan Smoak doesn't know who to help or trust.

Wow. That's all I can say about this book. There are so many twists and turns. It is a great mix of mystery, action, and suspense. I'm glad the library has the next in the series because I can't wait to continue the story.

I have a few of this author's books on my shelf. I have not read any yet but I had planned on checking this author out. Especially when I have heard good things about this author from the internet and a fellow reader friend. I just seemed to never find the time or chance to read any of the books that I had from this author. I finally found a chance with this new book. It really grabbed my attention.

The beginning of this book had my attention. I thought I can't wait to see where this story was going to lead. Which to be honest I found myself indifferent to Evan. I did not feel for him and what he had went through in his childhood to space him into the person he was in the present but at the same time I did not feel a strong presence with him in the story. In fact, I thought the other person gunning for Evan had a stronger presence. Yet the last third of the story did make up for some of these short comings with Evan showing why he should be feared.
