So, I am writing my reviews on a volume by volume basis. This might be a crazy endeavor, but I just wanted to make that clear so that no one thinks this 2 star rating is a reflection of what I think about the series. As a whole the series has been a goof read. Does it WOW me? No. But, this volume in particular kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

The main focus of the story was to end the drama on the demon island and then to set up more drama between Fairy Tail and a rival guild. So, story wise it was fine. You even get some Jellal in this volume, which is always nice. I think I like him, he has a misunderstood bad boy air about him, that I always fall for. But, here is what got me and it may seem so little and insignificant but it really made me cringe and think about it long after. This was the interaction between Makarov, the Fairy Tail guild master, and Lucy. Makarov was a little drunk and slaps Lucy on her butt, twice .

I can overlook the way women are portrayed in Fairy Tail. Because lets be honest, in just about all the manga you will read you will have scantily dressed woman, with body types that are down right outrageous. I also understand that Lucy and the girls are destined to find themselves in compromising situations that accentuate those crazy bodies.

Honestly, the amount of fan service is fine to me. I don't mind it, I expect it. And if you throw in more Grey shirtless scenes, I am one happy camper. But the slapping of Lucy's butt as punishment? When Natsu and Grey get a slap on the head, is ridiculous and I could not stomach it. Especially since I feel like it is disrespectful and gross. Makarov may be a perv but that's just sexual harassment. Here is the scene.

I was completely shocked. I always felt like even though Lucy has this air-headed feel to her, and she is scantily dressed in just about every scene, she still had my respect. And I believed she won over all of the other characters respect as well. But in this scene she does not receive the respect she deserves.

So, call me a feminist, but I don't care. It may seem like a little thing, but it really painted this volume in all the wrong light. I am not going to give up on the series, but I do long for a shift in behavior from at least Markarov. He is supposed to be the good guy for goodness gracious. If it's absolutely necessary for Lucy to get spanked, don't have her sexually harassed by her own team that's supposed to respect her. That's my only beef. And with the ending of this volume I am hoping for better in the next volume.

"Yo sellaré a tu pesadilla" Ur.

I really liked this volume. We got more of an inside look into Gray’s background, I enjoyed his arc story and the closure he was able to get. Gray and Natsu never fail to make me laugh especially when they’re bickering like an old married couple, yet when it comes down to it they both support one another and know that in the face of an enemy the other shouldn’t be underestimated.

Shoutout to Ezra, Happy and Lucy because I love them just as much.

Now, this would have been a 5 but the reason for the half star is because… I was a little disappointed with the Deloria arc, the build up was good which made way for a good fight. However, the climax just wasn’t it. Even though I can see that this was the whole point— as it was for Gray to get closure and Lyon to finally draw a line on his past— it was underwhelming overall.

Also, the thing that irked me most was Lucy being spanked by Markov as punishment when the guys just got a slap across the head. This just screamed sexual harassment and I know that women as a whole are overly sexualised in manga, this still didn’t sit right with me.

Although, overall it was still a really good volume that I enjoyed a lot.
