I’m not sure how I’m supposed to read IMPRINT, but I basically read it like reverse MISERY with a revenge arc, but I have a feeling that’s not how it’s meant to be read.

So we have a guy who basically caused the severe deformation of his wife, who is now relegated to warm liquid goo for her life, drugged up because of intense pain, and barely alive save for her husband’s ministrations. He creates this biomechanic body for his wife to Drift into so she can have some semblance of freedom, but it develops its own personality, an imprint of his wife.

The way I read it is that Synthia, the robot version of Cynthiana, was basically the deep-seeded manifestation of Cynthiana’s subconscious hatred of what her husband did to her. This “thing” isn’t really is wife, according to Malcolm, and is some diabolical version of her that he has to stop, when I’d put my money on Synthia being the more real version of Cynthiana than Cynthiana would care to admit. Because Synthia is Cynthiana.

Synthia is the finally free version of Cynthiana, the woman who’s been incapacitated because of her husband for the last number of years. All that debilitating pain, the simmering resentment, how she’s lived purely at his will, stuck for years. No, Synthia is not some abberation of Cynthiana gone awry. Synthia is exactly what Malcolm made of Cynthiana and he couldn’t handle what he created with his own hand.

Again, I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be this deep, or if I’ve drawn a deeply wrong conclusion from the story, but this is how I’m interpreting it. Which I wholly support. Synthia is finally free and she deserves it. Screw Malcolm.

Will you "place" your "consciousness" in another mechanical body? I never have thought of this plot, although I kind of expected it, however, it had a thrilling conclusion!

I love reading a book that when you finish the first page you are thinking; “ohhh this is good” then finish the first chapter and say; yep, I’m hooked! I really love when a book does that to me because it tells me I’m going to really enjoy the story. This is such an interesting story and although short, it really gets everything done. That ending was really something!
Well written, great story line and will definitely recommend this book if you want an awesome quick read.
