Hint: it's a systemic thing.

Really informative for me. Took me longer to get through than I'd have liked, but in the end I needed to hear the message. Not very compelling narratively, but she stuck the landing.

I really enjoyed the author's writing style, a good memoir voice.

This book is slightly more personal than some of Mannes other works, its almost philosophy and memoir of her attempts to lose weight and her process of coming to peace with her body. Her perspective is interesting. She is incredibly sharp and incisive. The one area that was lacking was around some of the science, she is a philosopher and I think branching into the science was a weaker area.

This was really good! It would have been rated higher for me if I hadn’t read similar books (thinking of Aubrey Gordon’s work especially) but it was really well written and I recommend it

I will say I think it should have a different title — that implied to me there would be more about how to actively challenge and unlearn the “shrinking” messaging but it was more generally an analysis of that
