Mr. Darcy was so much more prevalently a simp in the manga edition and I did not mind it
If I could, I would give it 100 stars out of 5. Like seriously, I love Pride and Prejudice that much!
Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favourites and when Jane sent a picture of this book to me last week, my answer was basically: GIMME GIMME GIMME (no, honestly, it was). So, yesterday she gave me the book and I started to read it at once.

Another flawless adaptation! I have turned into a complete fan of manga classics!
My Thoughts:
1. Whoever thought of turning classics into manga is a complete genius.
2. This adaptation had me falling in love with Pride and Prejudice all over again. Obviously small changes were made due to the length of the manga but, nonetheless, the book captured the essence of the original story perfectly.
3. Lovely illustrations and visuals! The artist did a marvelous job of portraying facial expressions and emotions. The characters were all very distinguishable based on their appearances which made it easier to read and understand.
4. I would highly recommend this book to those who have a hard time reading classics. Or if you've read Pride and Prejudice and didn't love it, PICK UP THIS BOOK because it just might turn you into a fan!

**(I read this title on netgalley and reviewed it as an educator:)
This book is a fantastic introduction to the classic for learners at the K-12 level!
Speaking as both a lover of graphic novels AND a lifetime Jane Austen fanatic, I would adopt this book for my curriculum in a heartbeat. It's such an accessible adaptation of the story--students are still reading it with (much of) the original wording and dialogue, but key words are changed (i.e. Netherfield hall has been rented rather than let) to allow for modern understanding. Students are still reading the original text, but where they might be in the dark about the meaning, they get to see Lizzie's reaction on her face and know that Darcy has insulted her, or that Mrs. Bennett is crazy excited, etc. That added context does wonders for the story's accessibility to a younger audience.
What's more, in a visual arts classroom like my own, this would be the ideal text to adopt for a unit: encouraging literacy and working cross-curricularly are close to my art, and this would allow for so many lessons. Students could read it and redraw panels, or do their own adaptation of a classic work--a fairytale, etc.
Some qualms: I'd like to see more of the original text retained, but I see the value of changing it for a younger audience. However, it seems a little blasphemous to change the opening line.

The obvious question is: how in the world does Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice translate to manga?
The answer is: surprisingly well*.
*As long as you can master the right-to-left panel reading that's typically required in manga. It took me about 10% of the book to get comfortable with that and to stop accidentally reading things out of order.
I was greatly relieved to find that the dialogue is largely faithful to the original. Can you imagine how terrible it would be if they tried to modernize "In vain I have struggled. It will not do. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you!"?
I thought the art was, for the most part, extremely well rendered. There are some beautiful sketches of Jane and Lizzie, especially.
All in all, it made for a lovely rereading of a fabulous novel. Not a substitute for the original, of course, but a very pleasant way to recall everything you loved about the original with the lagniappe of drawings that heighten the drama. Recommended for devoted Austen fans who enjoy an occasional graphic novel, and never thought to see the two overlap.
