This little novella was a great quick read with a strong dark comedy narrative. We follow our protagonist Bambi who’s a self-proclaimed player and not the best at keeping his actions secret because we start with him being thrown out of his current girlfriend’s apartment just at the start of Nigeria’s first covid lockdown. He seeks refuge at his recently deceased uncle’s house but he’s not alone. Sharing the house with his newborn nephew Remi and two women who claim to be the baby’s mother, he’s stuck in a strange, mind-games, psychological, stressful battle - both physically and mentally between them to keep Remi safe but also to know what is actually going on. Many events occur and the pacing is phenomenal, keeping you hooked and I flew through this. The characters are okayish like they are funny, relatable and developed but also do some questionable things - you do definitely want to read on to know more about them. It’s nothing great but was a quick, strange and enjoyable read, looking forward to Braithwaite’s first novel ‘my sister, the serial killer’ which I have on my physical tbr so hopefully will be getting to that soon.
