Such a beautifully written story. It's a story that makes you think about people, society and sport culture. It's a book that will touch you're heart and make you want to scream. It's a realistic portrayal of the worldview surrounding sports and whether or not the people involved should be accountable for what happens within the sporting community and what goes on outside it.

Look, the content of this book is great. The first 150 pages were sooooo slow…. I just wanted to get to the point of the book. But after the first 150 the pace gets better. The setting is atmospheric , characters are well-developed, the articulation of what people feel in all kinds of relationships… beautiful.

The writing style is herky-jerky, jumping around from character to character, and was tough for me to read. In many ways it’s necessary to the story, but it’s too quick, too constant, and made it hard for me to focus.

That being said, this book made me FEEL a certain way and I find myself frequently thinking about it. Beartown is a must-read for anyone & everyone anywhere.

I knew this book was good, but was not expecting this at all! If you can, go into this blind. Backman is a straight up genius when it comes to writing about what makes humans human. About how we show love, how we hate, how we grieve, how we live. An absolute masterpiece, as always. This is my 3rd book of his, and will not stop until I’ve read them all. 5 huge stars.
