I've come to the conclusion that I've become too old to really appreciate middle reader books, which is sad because I really enjoyed Holly Black's other books.

I really enjoyed this book! I haven't had much luck with other Holly Black books in the past, so this one surprised me. It's a book that I would have loooooved as kid. I was super into spooky stories. I really liked both the characters and the writing. I just wish there'd been a little more ghost activity. The story felt like it was missing something for me. But, overall, I thought this was really cute and I had a lot of fun reading it.

Three childhood friends set out on one last adventure to return a doll made from the bones of a murdered girl (It's a china doll that had the ashes of the girl in the porcelain.) to her families grave.
An interesting story about friends growing up but not that memorable.

This is a coming of age book about three friends on a quest to return a haunted doll with her body.

I really wanted to love this book because I am a fan of Holly Black’s work. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of this book.

This is a 250 page book. It is a good length but it felt so short. I don’t think we had enough time to truly fall in love with these characters.

Zach, Poppy and Alice have been friends for a long time but now as they are growing up their dynamics are shifting. Most of the time I felt that this was a story about Zach and a creepy doll.

The creepy doll factor was on point. I liked that portion of the book the best. The mystery that they uncovered was so intriguing, but not enough to pull the story up.

I give this book a C.

This book was a thrilling combination of spooky, as well as beautiful elements and it left me with goosebumps every time I stopped reading. But I never stopped reading for long. I was always left on the edge, with cliff hangers and shocking surprises. I never knew what was coming. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery with some notes of straight up spooky.

A friend recommended this book to me because I have a love of creepy dolls, lol. Turns out this story was written in a town that I frequent just about every day! East Liverpool, Ohio! I live in a town in WV, across the river =) What a great adventure!
