Maybe it was just because I was listening to it, but I had a hard time getting into both the story and the characters. Probably should have actually read this one.
I wanted to love this; I was ready to love it. The characters all fell a bit flat, and I didn't really know or like any of them. I didn't dislike them, but they weren't reveled in a way that enticed me to care. There were some creepy parts, but the ending just left me feeling, "Oh, well, ok."
I listened to this as an audio book because I have become a fan of the narrator Nick Podehl. this was a fun YA story. I was completely entertained. Exactly the kind of story to listen to during the commute.
Very good but very spooky. Read it to your kids if you want them to sleep in your bed with you until they leave for college. :)
3.5 maybe? Very cute and spooky tale about friendship and redefining relationships as you grow up.
We all know the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover." I judged this book by its cover. I read excellent review and I didn't believe them because the cover did not appeal to me at all. I don't know what made me pick it up now, but I'm glad I finally did.
Zach, Poppy, and Alice are middle-school kids who still play with dolls. Zach's father wants him to start behaving like a teenager and throws away his collection. Embarrassed, Zach doesn't explain why he is suddenly unable to play.
Poppy, fearing that the trio will drift apart now that they don't seem to have anything in common, asks them to help her with a real-life overnight quest. Unprepared for the perils of a real-life adventure the friends set out in the middle of the night.

I started reading this book the day before halloween. It was the perfect pairing for a cold fall day. Zach, Poppy, and Alice are three tweens who share a love of adventure and storytelling. There storytelling takes a scary turn with the introduction of an evil doll with mysterious powers. Ms. Black creatively weaves ghostly elements into the narrative of three friends making the transition into young adulthood.
For a book about a haunted doll made out of human bone, I was expecting it be more creepy.
