This book was fine, nothing more, but it held my attention well enough.

The writing is fluent and easy to read. However, I found that the story sometimes suffered from “telling, not showing“ syndrome. Key battles are kept quite short, as are many sad parts e.g.
the deaths of Idmon and Meleager
. As a result, the pacing often felt flat. I still enjoyed learning more about Atalanta‘s story though. (And a sidenote: her not clocking Jason because he was so “unremarkable“ was hilarious).

Overall, I’d say this is the weakest of the Jennifer Saint books I‘ve read so far, but it got me out of a reading slump, so yay!

I really enjoyed this retelling. I enjoyed that it was written in 1st person, giving a more personal take on Greek mythology which typically feels more distant and harder to relate to. I found the story of Atalanta quite beautiful and emphasised with her struggles and challenges. I found her a bit unfeeling at times however her characterisation made sense considering her backstory.  Overall this book was easy to read but still had an almost artist touch to it
