Quick paced book with consistently interesting plot. I found the ending to be a bit heavy handed though and would’ve considered a different twist. Additionally it irks me that the main characters happy ending still includes keeping a massive secret from her husband…. Eek

I think I might have liked this book better not as an audiobook. It was long, and very tense, and relentless. The adversary is such an over the top creepy psychopath that she felt unbelievable.
Excellent descriptions of scuba diving. <Spoiler>there is an absolutely terrifying underwater rescue scene during which I chewed off a fingernail. If confined spaces underwater, diving accidents, or psychopaths make you nervous, maybe try another one of her books. <Spoiler>

I found Never Have I Ever at Goodwill, and the blurb on the back intrigued me, so off it went to join the rest of the books on my egregious TBR pile. I kept thinking about the synopsis, though, so when our family was packing for vacation, I slipped the book in my carry-on. It took me a few days to work through it, and while it was definitely twisty and turny, it was also all over the place. The author's use of misdirection was annoying.
And the fact that it was child rape in the end was just mind-blowing... but not in a good way. The way Jackson handled writing it felt very out of touch.

I don't recommend Never Have I Ever. It's already on the shelf at Goodwill again, awaiting another all-day sucker like me to get entranced by the blurb (which honestly may have been my favorite thing about the book).

this book was perfect, except for the very rushed ending! i LIKED the twist ending, just wanted it to be a little longer and more detailed.

5ish words i would use to describe this book: blackmail, lying, murder, karma, and scuba diving

This was a decent read, but I found it didn’t grip me. I do have to stay though, that while it seemed like it was going to be similar to a lot of books I’d read in the past, there was enough different that it really engaged me. However, I found that despite so much happening, it often felt like nothing was happening. A lot of time was spent focused on Amy binge-eating, rather than moving the plot forward.

There were also a lot of characters introduced who wound up playing no role whatsoever, or only very tiny ones. I think this book could have been a bit cleaner, and it would have helped a lot.

However, there were some unique elements for sure. In my list of “weird careers that female thriller protagonists have that you would struggle to pay your bills with in real life” scuba diving instructor has not come up yet! I honestly really liked that element. I’m tired of all these thriller protagonists who are bloggers/cupcake artists/gallery curators, so Amy being a scuba instructor (and that actually playing a role in the plot) was cool.

Amy showed more patience with Roux than I could have 😒 Plot twists were revealed throughout the book instead of one giant reveal at the end. I liked this deviation and was surprised at some of the twists myself. It was slow to start and only picked up a past the halfway point in the book. Still a solid read overall!
