I’m gonna be real: I had to force myself through the beginning of the book. It just didn’t catch my attention.

I’m assuming most of us saw the videos the author put on TikTok about this book…the kitchen scene (iykyk). When I first saw it I was like “…eh idk maybe.” But then I kept seeing it, over and over and over and over again. So I broke, I caved. I bought the damn book (yes bought because it’s not on kindle unlimited! The first slap in the face of many to come.)

I talked myself through the beginning because I figured the rest of the book would be worth it. I saw all the hype on the book along with some of the scenes the author described. Therefore, I began the book with the hope this would be enough to overshadow the subpar beginning. Boy was I incorrect. I spent maybe 20% of the book rooting for the couple; semi-interested in the scenes and the dynamic of their relationship (the truck scene in the rain was probably as good as the book gets). The rest of the book…I was bored (to put it nicely).

We get a happily ever after 75% of the way through the book! Ashlynn and Logan breakup because Logan is a sumbag and within the same chapter her relationship starts with Colton! On another note: them [Ashlynn and Colton] trying to hide their relationship gave me faith this would be an interesting book. Then, 2 chapters later…BOOM (cue the second slap in the face!) “we’ don’t want to hide our relationship anymore because ‘we’ love each other. Let’s have a perfect relationship with no drama and complete trust” 70% through the book…BORING!

Of course the author has small disputes happen before the end of the book: Ashlynn’s parents not giving a rat’s a** about her existence and then Logan (the sumbag ex) trying to start a modicum of drama but even those are very small plots in the scheme of things. Nothing which would make me feel compelled to complete the book. Being completely honest, I thought this book would stay as a DNF on my list.

However, I persevered, I pushed through…and that’s the maximum I can claim from this book. I do not believe I am better for it. Now was this a horrible read?…no. Do I believe it is worth all the hype and advertisements it’s getting?…also no. Should you read it? I’ll let you decide. I don’t know how to conclude this…so…ta da?

Don't Let Me Fall (Don't Let Me #1) by Kelsie Rae – Kelsie Rae’s TikTok account talked me into buying this book! If you like college/hockey romance, this was dramatic but very sweet! Happy Reading!
