There's always something interesting to be learned when you read a firsthand account of past atrocities, and I'll admit that the book is valuable for that reason. However, while there were certain instances when the author managed to grab my attention with beautiful little poetic quips, the book just didn't catch my interest all that much. Wakatsuki is by no means a bad writer, but her style lacks the fervor that keeps me hooked and wanting more, more, more. Ultimately, though, reading this memoir was not a waste of time.

Most of the time I was just bored, but there were some parts of this book that just broke my heart.
