"You're really beautiful," Tuoba Yan said with a smile. "Tianchi come home with me, ba. I've always wanted to get married to someone like you. Just say the word and I will promise you anything. Whatever you ask me to do, I will do it."
I believe this is the first time I’m reading a book and suddenly think that maybe this is too long, it shouldn’t be this long…
Perhaps the plot was a little bit too much at times but honestly I just think it got dragged quite a bit. Like, when I read they went back in time I seriously almost had a stroke because there were still so many pages left and it was like oh my god they died just like that and got sent back in time lol. Also, I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before about some other book but this was a very painful slow-burn, and not painful like angst and suffering and sadness, it was just so incredibly and (imo) unnecessarily long (^_^)But oh well, it worked out at the end and it’s what matters most I guess.
I loved Xiang Shu, btw. I loved him the most, I think. I just really enjoyed his character. I’ve seen many people complain about how he treats Chen Xing poorly most of the book but I don’t think we’ve read the same thing here like I’m not seeing that at all tbh. I adored their relationship too, they were really sweet and dedicated to each other it was very lovely to read.

This is more like a 4.5. I really liked this book, even though it employed some tropes that I'm not usually into and some of the later chapters felt rushed. Also I have no idea what "Arise Zhang" means, the author of this book is Fei Tian Ye Xiang.
Anyway, if you like grumpy ones soft for sunshine ones, the slowest goddamn burn, and characters with martyr complexes, HAVE I GOT A BOOK FOR YOU!

i went back and forth between adding that extra .25 but honestly, i don’t think i enjoyed this as much as i wanted to. there’s things i’m conflicted about here and there </3
the first half of the plot did feel a little repetitive at times, though my main issue with it (all of the plot, not just the first half) was that it often felt like i was peeking behind the curtain. feitian yexiang is amazing at slotting puzzle pieces together and just as amazing at choosing when, exactly, to slot them in and when to let the empty space do the talking instead—it’s what made the plot work. BUT, what i said before… sometimes you can see him move the pieces on the board, not in a chekhov’s gun kind of way but more in a setting up barbie dolls kind of way. and boy does it drag. it fucks with the pace, though overall the story has a good flow. (yes i mixed my games, sorry! you get puzzles, chess, AND barbies in this review)
what else, mh. i like how the story doesn’t lose the comedy from the first half later on, it just chooses its moments with more care.
okay good! characters, yeah. everyone’s lovable tbh, they all have their things, some have more depth than others but that’s valid. i do have some issues with age differences, but the main couple at least is dealt with well enough (though let’s be real, starting with an older chen xing or closing the age gap a little would have gotten rid of the problem at the root).
there are some truly excellent dynamics that i wish we had gotten more of: wen chen and xin yuanping steal every single scene they’re in, but we already get so much more time with them than we do with murong chong and qinghe who are actually introduced relatively early but barely get any scenes together (best siblings in the story hands down <3). oh well, at least we get some good ones with them individually. the lord taketh, the lord giveth.
on the opposite side there are some dynamics that i wish had been handled better; in fact there’s a couple that veer into yikes! territory namely feng qianjun and gu xing, as well as whatever the fuck is up with how ftyx chooses to write xiao shan and lu ying in vol. 4/5 and on a less uncomfortable note, though not less baffling, the way xiang shu sometimes interacts with xiao shan :/
that being said, volume four you’ll always be famous !!! i’m a sucker for time travel, i eat that shit up, but after the initial WOOHO FUCK YES HERE WE GO, i did get the wind knocked out of my sails, so to speak. with the ‘bad guys’ almost immediately realizing what’s happening… idk, it kept the second timeline fresh, that’s true, but i feel there was some missed potential there. and again the tide ring was only mentioned twice after that one big moment 1) final battle, which was pretty obvious, and 2) a blink and you’ll miss it moment in the competition with che luofeng
my favorite part of the whole thing, though, is that it’s a story about coming together. sometimes your impossible task is only impossible because you think it’s YOUR (singular) impossible task, when in reality there’s people who care and love you that have been trying to tell and show you that it’s YOUR (plural, all of y’all’s) task. it’s the building a community, a family, even. it’s reaching out, helping out, and then letting people reach back.
above all, it’s a story about incredibly lonely people in a very very big world somehow managing to find each other.
in fact, loneliness is what feitian yexiang writes best here. the little moments where the characters open up to each other, where you see them get closer, become family… they really made the novel for me. i wish there had been even more <3
anyway, peace and sorry for any typos. and also the chaotic review.

A truly adventurous one. This novel should be the perfect vessel for a donghua adaptation (I haven’t watched the existent donghua yet but I bet it’s amazing).
I haven’t had so much fun reading a danmei novel since November so this one came as a breath of fresh air. There’s a lot of mysteries, a lot of shounen fights and a lot of comedy.
The romance is slow burn, reaaaaally slow burn so if you are reading because of the CP just don’t because those two take a lot of time to get together.
I liked all of the characters here, the secondary ones made this a really fun ride!
The translation is almost done but I had to read the last chapters mtled but I don’t think my rating will change after finishing reading the translation.
4/4
