3.8 AVERAGE

3.5 Stars *** It was a lovely story with two great characters. I just wish they would have had more tension, since it was so good. There was a portion of the book that I felt was unfulfilling but the ending was perfection <3

Annabelle can’t catch a break in this one. She’s beautiful & smart, but isn’t considered wife material because she doesn’t have a dowry. So, all these guys make her a wallflower so she’ll be so grateful when they offer her the position of mistress.

One of those winners is Simon. So she turns down every dance. While she’s sitting to the side she makes friends with her fellow wallflowers. They all decide to help each other find a husband of wealth & privilege. 4 girls, 4 books.

Simon is brash & made his fortune through manual labor. The girls find him unmarriagable. He is not of the English tonne. Before you call them out as snobs, remember he only wants Annabelle to be his mistress. This is definitely enemies to lovers.

If this was the first of the series that I had read, I'm not sure I would have continued. It got much better after the 2/3 mark - in fact I put it down for a few days before finishing it since it was irritating me so much. Nice to see the formation of the Wallflowers and finally read Annabelle's story.

The conflicts between Annebelle and Simon felt contrived.. but there's fun banter, and a promising introduction to the Wallflowers (ladies and the series)

Okay, I loved Dreaming of You, but I loved this one even more. It was just so much fun. Simon was funny (because he told jokes! on purpose! not just by behaving so ridiculously it made me point and laugh!), and for all his teasing, he was gentle with Annabelle when he needed to be, and he wanted to dance with her so so bad.

Much as I loved the romance, though, I think I would have loved this book just as much if it had only focused on the wallflowers. I tend to get impatient with romance, but I loved the friendship between these four women so much, and I loved how much space the book had for them all throughout the book. I think just as many of my favorite parts had to do with the wallflowers as the romance.

I did feel a bit like the book handwaved some of the class difference issues it had introduced by the end, but perhaps on a reread, I'll feel differently. And there will certainly be rereads, but first I have three more wallflower HEAs in my future, and I cannot wait.

After how much I liked The Hathaways I had high hopes for this series, but the start has not been the best. I loved the friendship among the wallflowers, but I was not particularly invested in the couple, and the way almost every man in this book was willing to ruin Anabelle's life just to get into her bed was disgusting. I know it happened, but it was still not great to repeatedly read about it. Hopefully the next one will be better.

"I love you dammit" 😂

This was good. I enjoyed it! Simon is a bit hairy for me, but they were entertaining.

I'm having a period-romance frenzy. Which has been going on for 2 weeks? 3 weeks?

Anyway I think this is the best of Lisa Kleypas' Walflowers series so far cause I don't remember the Autumn and Winter book being this good. 4.7/5
