That ending was so cute! I flew through the second half of this book but the beginning was so slow! I loved Simon but Annabelle was very frustrating but she did have amazing character development. I loved the friendships and I’m so excited for Lilian and Westcliffs story!
Can’t wait to read more Lisa Kleypas!

Okay, so here's proof that Kleypas can write a hero that I don't necessarily want to push off a balcony. (Though Kleypas confuses a balcony with a balustrade and thus gives the fairly amusing mental image of a character leaning his elbows upon the balcony, which seems rather awkward, not to mention indelicate in polite company.)

But. That said, I did like this story much better than almost all of the others ones I've read. I love the four wallflower girls, and I love them banding together. I also thought the hero - though a bit coarse at the beginning - was sweet in the way that he cared for her.
Spoiler HE BOUGHT HER BOOTS!
There was some great humor, and I can't wait to see what happens with Lillian and Westcliff because those two don't get along at all (which of course means they will fall madly in love!)

This last third of the books sags a bit as the dramatic actions dips. Kleypas tells a lot and the scenes that she could have shown she relates as flashbacks. A good solid rewrite could have kept the tension high, and also given more of an insight into the hero's emotional state, so the end would have flowed a bit more organically.

Harry being mentioned but no appearance of him made me upset!! I miss him so bad !
Anywaysss...

When their noses were nearly touching, he took a deep breath, and said, “I love you, dammit.”
She brushed her lips teasingly against his. “How much?”
He made a slight sound, as if the soft kiss had affected him intensely. “Without limit. Beyond forever.”

SIMON!!!!!!!!!

Not my favorite of this genre.

After about 1/2 way, I started missing some of the other wallflowers together in scene since it started to become more of Annabelle's story. Dang the last 30 or so pages put me through the ringer.

Annabelle Peyton is absolutely certain that she needs to marry a noble to save her family from their financial problems. Rich businessman Simon Hunt wants her, but she hates him because he's too direct and isn't part of the aristocracy. You'll never believe it, but after like 300 pages of hating him because she's a snob, she discovers she actually loved him all along and they get married.

I listened to this entire book on a road trip and had a pretty good time. I just don't think these tropes work for me.
