If Simon lived in 2024 he would've been canceled but I enjoyed the book a lot

"This was a cute book. I thought I knew what would happen but it was surprisingly different than other historical romances I’ve read. I love a “he falls first” trope and Simon was so in love with Annabelle it wasn’t even funny. A quote I liked from this book is
“Were there an ounce of poetry in Simon's soul, he might have thought of dozens of rapturous phrases to describe her charms. But he was common to the core, and he could not find words accurately to describe his attraction. All he knew was that sight of Annabelle in the glittering light of the chandeliers was very nearly knee-weakening.”

Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I really like this series, think I liked this one more on the second read to be honest. Can't believe it's been 5 years since I first read it.

I think I didn't like Annabelle on the first read but I felt she kind of did what she had to do on the second and I really liked her. She was kind of a badass actually. Simon is lush!

This was recommended to me from a friend who said it's a light, easy read and she was very right. After reading some very serious books with hard topics, this was a very pleasant read to cleanse me a little. Light and fluffy is how I would describe this, but not in a bad way. If you just need something light and fun then this is definitely a book for you. A good way to pass the time.

3.5 Make Your Own Fate Stars

Wallflowers Binge Read.

So many of my friends love this series so here we go….

First I love the premise of this series as I’m sure that had I been alive at the time and in this culture more than likely I would have been a Wallflower. Four girls unite to help each other land husbands as something is undesirable about each of them to the gentry. I love stories that involve strong friendships between women that show them in a good light helping one another and not being caddy, jealous or vindictive.
“I'm coming to believe that there are two kinds of people... those who choose to be masters of their own fate and those who wait in chairs while other dance. I would rather be one of the former than the latter.”

Annabelle has just made three friends who have decided to help her land a husband. She is a beautiful girl with a name but no money to accompany it and has had no luck finding a husband in three seasons. This is her last chance and the vultures are circling already. If she can’t find a husband there are men who are ready to take her on as a mistress and due to her family’s financial state she might not have a choice.

Her final hope comes in an invitation to Lord Westcliff’s estate where there will be a few bachelors in attendance that might fit her needs if she can capture the attention of one. It seems that Annabelle has caught the attention of a rich man but Mr. Hunt but he isn’t part of the Gentry and made all his money working *gasps*. He might fit the financial needs of Annabelle’s plight but he certainly doesn’t fit the idea of who she needs to marry.

Mr. Hunt has always enjoyed his verbal sparring with Annabelle and while he won’t interfere with her endeavors to land an acceptable husband, he too is ready to jump in and have her become his mistress after this season fails for surely he is not the marrying kind *snickers*. But the more time that he spends with her the less he seems to believe that he could ever be parted from her. Now if he could just convince her of that too.
“Where are we going?” Annabelle asked, resisting his hold on her wrist.
“To the house. If they’re not willing to be witnesses, then it seems I’ll have to debauch you in front of someone else.”

I enjoyed the story and how if played out. The building care that Hunt had for Annabelle and the time they spent together. There is a bit of a slow portion after the marriage (come on we all knew it was going there right) but before the galvanizing tragic event that solidifies them. But overall this was a fun HR read that had some great funny dialogue and silly laughable moments in it.

Favorite Scenes

✿ - Getting caught playing Rounders in their knickers.
❀ - Playing chess in sitting room
✿ - The Dance, to her favorite waltz
❀ - The BOOTS, who knew I could be so excited about a man giving a lady some boots.
✿ - AND OF COURSE the ‘I don’t want to live without you scene’ at the end.

They needed a bit more development imo
funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced

This was cute I just wish I had read this at like 18, I needed this then

This one was fun and a great start to the series. I'm curious how the others find their friends husbands when this one didn't go exactly as planned.
