Interesting concept, a little younger perhaps than I was hoping, but quite enjoyable none-the-less. I'd give it 3 and a half stars but have rounded it up to 4 because it was one of those books that was easy to read, but still not quite one where I struggled to put it down.

I didn't particularly like Merry, but loved the brother/sister bond she shared with Leo. The storyline was fairly simple, with not many sub-plots going on, but was a good enjoyable read :)

I wanted to like this more than I did - I was expecting far more romance from the title and the blurb. And I found the way magic worked not very well thought out. But I enjoyed the secondary characters.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Loved all the little nods to other writers and books dotted throughout.

Easy read and I kept engaged, however I went into it thinking it was a gender bent retelling of Sleeping Beauty, and it somehow is but isn't.

I was provided a copy via Net Galley.

This book follows Merry who discovers that her destiny is to stop the King of Hearts who was created many years ago by an evil wizard. I was really intrigued by this story as it has witches in along with elements of fairy tales.

I was hooked from the beginning. We are introduced to Merry who is a witch struggling with her powers. We gradually learn about the curse and that Merry is the only one who can break it. I found it really interesting to learn about the curse and what had happened in the past. We learn that the curse was cast by Gwydion when the women he loved told him that she didn't love him. Gwydion creates the King of Hearts to remove the hearts of people in love.

I really liked how this story progressed. I couldn't put it down as I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. I really like the relationship that Merry had with her brother Leo. He was able to help her and I really liked seeing their relationship. There was a bit of romance in this book which I liked but it wasn't the main focus.

I am interested to read the sequel when it is released and I can't wait to read more from the authors.

I absolutely loved it!! A friend recommended this to me and I'm so glad. I loved the plot and Jack. Omg Jack. Don't even get me started on Jack. I actually love Jack. Omg. Read it. ❤️
- Will be re-reading, especially when the others in the series come out.
