The first book that I read by Mr. Wilson was his excellent [if disorganized] book "The Imperfect Pastor." I think I highlighted "The Imperfect Pastor" more than any other book I've ever read [and not because I was thinking about my own pastors at my church 😊]. I highlighted it because it was marked by humility and the author's own life difficulties and failures.

Mr. Wilson does an excellent job in this book, but it wasn't as powerful as "The Imperfect Pastor," which is not to say that it isn't a good book, it is a very good book [four stars]. In addition, this book actually has a discernible organization and Mr. Wilson sticks to the organization! Who knew he could do this?

Mr. Wilson takes a rather straightforward approach to discipleship [all of the categories you would expect: Bible reading, prayer, etc.] and infuses them with his own particular style of writing which I deeply appreciate. He does not take himself too seriously, he writes in a quite humble style and is not afraid to poke fun at himself [or in some cases at other types of people - white people who try to clap in rhythm in church]. He doesn't do this maliciously, he does it with humor and with a refreshing take that encourages the reader to be serious, but with an attitude of joy and humor, to not sweat the small stuff, to embrace our quirky selves as we are and let God shape that!

Good book. Well worth your time.

Another great book from Jared Wilson. This one brings us the refreshment of "Gospel Deeps" and a steady reminder of our union with Christ as the anchor and formation of our discipleship. It is a drink of cool water for those in need of relief from the exhaustion of trying to prove themselves and become the "spiritual elite."

Wilson's account of the gospel, how he describes "his," will incite many revelers in the goodness of Jesus and his grace, all the way down and up, for us. Read this over and over again.

The only thing that I missed is the classic Wilson footnotes. But the same candor came across in the text anyway!

Grace upon grace upon grace - a beautiful reminder of it. This is a book that is centered on Jesus, honest (albeit quirky), and a refreshing reminder of how all sufficient grace is despite our constant failings.

Excellent. Wilson reminds us that discipleship is not like a promotion, a one-time progression, but rather it means a life-long duty. Clearly, we will falter. And if you are like everyone else in the world, guilt and shame take quick root in our hearts. But the recognition that God remains invested in our sanctification and our ultimate glorification should break our hearts as disciples. Spurgeon wrote that ā€œThe heart broken, not by distress or disappointment, but on account of sin, is the heart which God peculiarly delights to heal.ā€

First off, this book is incredibly easy to read - each chapter is well written and so inviting that you lose yourself within. Most importantly, this book is gospel saturated. It meets you in your not-enoughness, in your brokenness, in your sin and points you beautifully and unfailingly to Jesus. Jesus is the goal of all and Jesus is the keeper and sustainer or all. And it helps you see what is often un-seeable to our broken souls, the deep love and delight of God for us.

This, quite possibly, may be the best book I've ever read.

I found the Imperfect Disciple to be insightful, inspiring, encouraging, and engaging. I learned a lot and found a lot of truth in Wilson's words. He has some great insights that helped shape how I seek to be a disciple and how I try to guide others to do the same.

Jared Wilson offers hope and good news to weary sinners who have trusted in Christ and yet are frustrated by their sin. In this grace–filled book, he discusses the truth of the finished work of Christ and then talks about how that results in a life of pursuing Him. Liberating, challenging and encouraging, this book is worth the short read.

Solid book on sanctification, though I wouldn’t say the information is that different than other books I’ve read
