I’m speechless that’s all I can say. I knew about genital mutilation but I never really thought about it and it now leaves me speechless

Amazing book!

This was such a powerful story to read. It was written so well and I couldn't put it down. Definitely one those books that will stay with me for a long time.
I will be picking up desert dawn when I next go to the library.

Another book I read while in Germany -- Dirie's work focuses on the practice of female genital mutilation. It's biographical in nature and I do not recommend it for children or young teenagers, as I feel it could be too graphic. However, the book is very moving, particularly when Dirie writes of her mother.
