A very dark but inspiring story, the second book was terrible but this one had a very good structure and if it wasn’t based on a true story you’d think it was too far fetched

Waris is a woman who everyone should strive to be ; honest, strong, independent and cultured. Reading about her childhood growing up in Somalia truly humbled me and is a reminder that what we have in America will always be a luxury compared to what other people have in third world countries. A beautiful and easy to read biography.

Did a re-read because I read it first when I was pretty young.

What an impressive, sad and empowering story this is. Made me cry the first time, again this time and probably again when i would read it again.

Not a 5 star because the beginning is quite chaotic in the timeline and not very well written which made it sometimes difficult to read for me.

The style of writing is not great, but the story, is touching in its direct simplicity. There is a bit of a messed time line, but once you get used to it, it's ignorable.

Warning: You'd cry (specially if you are a woman when you realize about FGM. I have not heard of it until I read the book. Just reading made me writhe in pain. To think that people actually go through this is -unfathomable.
