This was a guilty pleasure read and I would absolutely not recommend it if you can't stomach all the preaching. I read it in childhood after seeing the movie and just needed to revisit it.

First Sentence...
"THE FIRST TIME I SAW THE SIN EATER WAS THE NIGHT
Granny Forbes was carried to her grave."
That night when Cadi first laid eyes on the Sin Eater would forever change her. Cadi - a 10 year old girl, living in the Great Smoky Mountains in the 1850's - was carrying a great burden. She was leading a life with guilt. Cadi was weighed down with grief...with burden... she felt as if she was doomed. She was very much afraid of God because of her feelings of guilt. Seeing the Sin Eater for the first time set Cadi on a mission. A mission to seek the Sin Eater, unload her guilt and be forgiven.

This story kept me on my toes, wondering what would happen next and where it was going.
However, it's a very different story than other Francine Rivers books I've read before and it was kind of refreshing in that way.
I love the creativity and history in the story as well as the symbolism. Totally would recommend.

I am a Francine Rivers lover, but in my opinion this wasn’t her best work. I really liked the concept, an allegory of Jesus and our need for him, and thought it was a neat way to present the gospel. However, I found the story pretty slow and it took me a while to connect and root for the characters.

The Last Sin Eater was an awesome read. The storyline is beautifully written. This story is a fantastic reminder that we don't need a middle man anymore, once we accept our Maker and His promise through Christ. This one was a page turner, a quick read!
