This book was fun, goofy and a brilliantly cheesy self-aware romcom, and it's one of the first books I've read in ages that I found hard to put down! I loved the characters dynamics and the chemistry was so believable and enjoyable to read.

The only reason I haven't quite given it 5 stars is purely just because of a small detail -which I am aware is personal to me for why it bugged me - and that is Olive's best friend Anh not having a reaction to finding out at the end of the book that Olive had been lying to her for months, I just found that a bit too unrealistic and I feel it would've added more depth to Anhs character if she had been given a scene to have a small conflict with Olive about this. But I am aware that I am more likely to be somewhat miffed by this small detail because of the nature of best friend that I am - if I were in Anhs shoes I would very much be upset šŸ„². So I understand that the author may just have not pictured Anh as this type of friend in her mind, which is valid. Moving on to my favourite scenes of the book - which literally had me giggling and kicking my feet like a teenager again - the scenes in the first half of the book where Olive and Adam had to partake in some classic fake-dating trope activities, but the specific scenes where Olive had to sit on Adam's lap in the auditorium, and then go kiss him after he'd moved a truck, were SO GOOD and I am already looking forward to one day re-reading this book and getting to read those scenes again hahaha šŸ˜‚ also the fact that Olive only realised how attractive Adam was after seeing him in a well-fitted basic black t-shirt is so real and I completely relate lmao šŸ˜‚

This was the perfect book for me to read at this point in my current life - brilliant escapism and well-written enough to feel realistic in my head, and have me really rooting for the characters throughout the book šŸ„° Also big shoutout to one of my best besties for recommending this book and for providing me with her copy to borrow šŸ˜Š

First, I have to say that I didnā€™t wanna read this book and fired for myself, but when my mum found it for free, I was like okay, letā€™s go
I was very cheesy and cringy.
The Romans writing was very Wattpad, which if you like it then fine, but I just donā€™t want to read a normal book written like a Wattpad story. It has a very explicit smut scene Thatā€™s also quite Wattpad written if I have to say.
I guess I enjoyed a bit more than I thought I would because I thought I would not enjoy it at all. I donā€™t think I wanna read it again, but it was cool that they had lots of chemistry right from the beginning and you figure out a lot of different things in the course of the book.
Iā€™m not sure if it bothers me, but I really couldnā€™t ignore the age gap and that she is a student and he is a professor. Itā€™s just a bit weird

It was a bit of a struggle for me to get Reylo out of my head while reading this. Also the sock thingā„¢ļø was a little weird to me (personal preference sorry idk man). It just all felt very fanfic-ey to me BUT that is not a bad thing by any means. I am a fanfic aficionado so I have no issues with fanfic whatsoever. I just felt like it took me out of the book a little bit, since I personally am NOT a fan of Reylo. So I gotta get that out of the way at the start of the review, this definitely affected my opinion of the book, but not by any fault of the authorā€™s or the writing.

I do love a fake dating trope. I would absolutely die for that trope, so therefore I very much enjoyed this book. I also enjoyed the science references, as a STEM nerd myself.

I found the sexual harassment thing to be kind of triggering in a way because it was just too real and horrifying. It was hard to read because I know, unfortunately, how often that kind of thing happens and it very often does not work out as well in real life as in this book. Most people donā€™t have a recording of the offensive misogynistic comments that they can use to hold the person accountable. I just kept stressing about how that couldā€™ve gone so differently, and often does. So having that in the book kind of brought me out of the fluff a bit because I was so distressed. BUT that moment at the restaurant where she plays the recording for everyone was so fucking satisfying I was LIVING.

Another issue I had with the book was the way that Olive kept just lying out of her ass to Adam and not just being honest about her feelings drove me kind of crazy. I understand that she was afraid of admitting feelings and being rejected, but I also felt like she needed to tell him that her feelings had changed because it wasnā€™t fair to keep him in the situation when he didnā€™t know the full story. It feels like in that kind of situation itā€™s important that everyone is on the same page at a certain point. I understand her reasoning, it just annoyed me and there was like 20% of the book where she was just not telling him important stuff and I was like girl. what. I just felt like having him continue the fake dating once he thought she liked someone else seemed unfair because she wasnā€™t being fully honest with him. I also thought the fact that she kept assuming that he just like someone else, for absolutely no reasoning, irritated me a lot. I guess this is my long winded way of saying that Olive as a character kind of got on my nerves.

All this said, the book was fun and had some tropes that I love to death. I am an absolute sucker for fake dating and grumpy-sunshine. I just think that this was not my favorite of the fake dating/grumpy sunshine books that I have read. But if you like that trope I would still recommend this book.
