This book is the textual embodiment of macabre. While I think I agree with the moral thrust I couldn’t get through it.
Look, I don’t know how I feel about this book but I think about it way more than I want to and the images are seared in my brain. In that way it’s a masterpiece

Dicono che per proteggere la propria vita un uomo deve morire. Se accetti di combattere accetti di morire. Ora se muori per proteggere la tua vita non sei certo più vivo e allora che senso ha una cosa del genere?
Un uomo non dice digiunerò fino alla morte per non morire di fame. Non dice spenderò tutti i miei soldi per risparmiarli. Non dice brucerò la mia casa per impedirle di prendere fuoco. Perché dunque dovrebbe desiderare di morire per il privilegio di vivere? Nei fatti della vita e della morte dovremmo avere tanto buon senso quanto ne abbiamo andando a comprare il pane.
