The pace was slower than I expected, but I still liked the book. Probably for its references to Oakland and the writing style. I liked how the author depicted character motivations (someone thinks they’re helping another, but it’s actually selfish).

An unforgettable read! I felt as though this book was clinging to me and it never wanted to let go. Loved each chapter. Mottley, you’re now one of my elite employees.

really heavy heavy read. everything that could go wrong does. halfway thru i learned the author was 17 when she started writing this ??

beautiful and harrowing story, plot moves like molasses sometimes and lightning quick at others. really thoughtful and full story in world-building and character development.

only nit was the sometimes over-descriptiveness / one metaphor too many. will remember this one
