This book had an incredibly slow start, I'll be honest I really struggled to get into it but I pushed myself through the slow start as I really enjoyed the other books in this series so far and I'm glad I kept going.
The start did seem to suffer from a feeling of going in circles with Elijah Bailey seemingly gaining absolutely no information along the way for a while and then there was a lot of the book dedicated to the views around sex on Aurora which I did find a bit unnecessary at points but the second half of the book really picked up the pace and had me desperate to know what the hell was going on, everyone felt like a suspect and Bailey was going out of his way to gather as much information as possible in as short a period of time as possible, he went from gaining no information to accusing multiple people and taking long shots for the chance to gain as much information as possible.
I do wish the pacing of this book was a bit smoother as it's definitely not my favourite in the series but I did really enjoy it after I got past the initial slow chunk of the book, I absolutely whizzed through the last 100 pages in a few hours where the rest of the book took me over a week as I was definitely lacking motivation at the start.

Didn’t realize this was part two of a series, which explains why it was such a confusing read lol

Moderate: Sexual content
Minor: Incest and Xenophobia
I was nervous about halfway through that despite my love for Asimov's writing I'd be disappointed by this book, since the solution to the mystery seemed so obvious, but as usual I was surprised by the ending. I especially enjoyed the references to the Foundation series — I already knew Daneel figured into the larger picture, but it was fun to gain a greater understanding of Baley's place in the chronology. I do disagree with some of (most of) the book's moral insinuations, but I was willing to excuse it in light of it being on the older side.seldonsplan's review against another edition

A long journey, but the creativity of the story makes it all worth it.

I'm sad. I really wanted to like this. The beginning was so good, and then it got weird, and then it got boring. Still love the friendship moments between Baley and Daneel. But I really didn't care for all the discussions about sex. There was hardly any investigation this time—just boring, long-winded, repetitious dialogue.
And then a mind-blowing plot twist at the very end. Damn, that twist is SO good. Why wasn't the rest of the book as good?
