Characters all unlikable and it jumped from person to person and time to time too much, making it confusing, but good twist.

Friends from Vassar reunite for a weekend 10 years after graduation in an attempt to stage an intervention for their friend, Keith, who is an addict. Their friendship took a turn 10 years earlier when they were partying on the roof of a college building and someone fell to their death. This led to the death, presumably suicide, of their friend Alice.
When they take a trip to a town in the Catskills, the police officer assigned to the case has a tragedy trying her to the area. Julia’s sister, Jane, was killed savagely, and her friend, Bethany, was never recovered.
Maeve, Jonathan, Derrick, Stephanie, Keith, and an outsider Finch, are in for a terrible weekend.
This book has the premise of being great, but there were too many storylines happening. There was a lot of betrayal and backstabbing. Plenty of hints to give you clues to the killer’s identity, but still somewhat surprising.

A little trope-y, but entertaining and interesting mystery.

this book was almost a 3 star but then the two last twists happened and saved it and moved it to four.

I’ve been a big fan of Kimberly McCreight ever since reading A Good Marriage and Where They Found her. She is amazing at writing characters and making you care about them no metter how unlikable they are. I really enjoyed reading about these friends . But there were also some things that didn’t make this book a five star for me. it was kinda slow at times and I didn’t care about some of the twists but to sum it up it was a good thriller

Competently written but just standard for the genre with fairly flat characters in a plot that unfurls in various voices and timeliness to piece together the aha moment at the end. I didn't find the writing worthwhile or any of it interesting enough to want to read more from this author. It was like watching someone tie a knot in a cherry stem with their tongue, watching the author trace out her plot and reveal. Like, cool, that's a skill, but worthwhile? No, it just passes the time.

3.5 stars- there was so much going on in this book it was hard to remember all the different sub-plots and all the details about the different characters. The ending however, I didn’t see that coming and I read the last 50-75 pages very quickly to figure out what happened.
