Kind of a gross book on what happens to whales when they die and all the creatures that feast on them.

My boys (8&9) and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was so informative and we learned a lot! I had never heard of a whale fall before and it’s fascinating. The illustrations made the story as they are SO cute!

This was stunning from beginning to end. Diving right in with the main course, the dead whale, the reader learns about the different creatures that thrive on the whale carcass. The entire process is incredibly fascinating, and the engaging text combines with illustrations that draw you right in. There's a good amount of back matter as well, including a few websites for additional exploration, more information on many of the creatures that feed on the whale fall, a description of the first discovery of a whale fall and how scientists study them today, and an extensive acknowledgement to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
