Couldn’t connect to the fmc. Didn’t like how the story was told, it felt chaotic.

This was a slow burn and ultimately a great read. This one will sit with me for a long time.

Damn this woman can write! She does motherhood, family dynamics and relationships so well. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. Only knocked off half a star as I felt the pacing dragged at times.

At 57, Julia has a lovely suburban life, married, working and with two nearly grown children. But suddenly life begins to change and she encounters someone who really rocked her boat 20 some-odd years ago...
This book sounded good when it started making the rounds on Bookstagram. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I couldn't relate to Julia on a personal level at all. She's much older, has children and struggled with motherhood. However, Lombardo's writing is brilliant. It's incredibly immersive and so filled with life that I didn't need to relate. She takes you along Julia's life into the present and through flashbacks of her younger years with class and seamlessness.
I gobbled this up. It was a wonderful, realistic and at times dramatic story. The characters were all so distinct. You felt like you were in the room. And the ending felt like a neat little bow. Love it when books surprise you!

Meh. I finished it and there were glimmers of goodness throughout. But half of it could have been cut.
