I just didn't connect with the characters. They seemed shallow, I never felt for them. It was an okay read but could have passed on it

This romance is book 1 in the Sunrise Cove series. I really liked it, however, I would've liked if the two MMCs and the two FMCs had a bit more of a different voice. I was about a quarter of the way in when I realized some parts were about two other characters... It was cute, with fake dating and found family.

Double romance, the MCs are both working their way into connection. Sweet small town Tahoe setting. Ending felt more rushed than a classic romance arc, but would classify this (like her Wildstone series, which I love) more in the Women’s Fiction space.

Wow. This was a random pickup at the library and I can’t believe how good it was.
I’d never heard of this author, but I love her writing style. She reminds me of a less spicy Lucy Score. Definitely a single chili pepper…lots of closed door. I was laughing out loud, her characters were swoon-worthy, and the story had me in my feelings quite a bit. Relatively low angst, but plenty of growth and development. Totally my jam.
I also loved how she incorporated more than one love story! I almost liked Charlotte and Mateo better?! Sincerely would have loved more of them. The multiple POVs and storylines reminded me of Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series, a bit. Supposedly the series goes on, but they are true standalones that are only connected by location. So that’s exciting! And I will always stand behind a story where the main characters are perceived as difficult by the whole world, but easy to love by their person.

2.5 ⭐️ At times, I thought it was going to be a 3 star read, as it had an interesting meet-cute and I loved the small town mountain setting. But the last third of the book felt rushed, I wanted a little more depth from the characters and storyline, and there were some super cringey stereotypes that knocked me back to a 2 star - so I averaged it out. I probably won’t continue the series. Read on audio.

I should have written this review a few days ago. But writing the review meant I had to move on. I don't want to move on. I am ecstatic that this is the first book in a new series. I cannot wait for book 2, book 3, book 4.....
The Family You Make is a story about not fitting in. The Family You Make is a story of the struggles in a person's past, okay more than one person. Most important of all, The Family You Make is a story showing that blood doesn't always make a family. People make a family.
Jane's walls are impenetrable after a past that left her heart crushed. Levi had been avoiding a family that loved him but didn't understand him. Escape brings them together where their lives hang in the balance. A lot can run through one's mind when you aren't sure if you are going to live or die. Decisions made can change everything or nothing. The Family You make is a journey of struggles, decisions, family, and friends wanting to be family.
The Family You Make had me crying. The Family You Make had me laughing. The Family You Make had me hoping for the best but expecting the worst. The Characters had me wanting to move to Sunrise Cove. I want to become part of a Jane's made up family.

I'm all for the "man that's clearly written by a woman" character, but you have to make it believable.
These men had no spine whatsoever. They were yes men in the most boring sense of the term. The ending of this book almost made me scream
