This was an outstanding military book. It was easy to read, follow and understand. The description that Marcus Luttrell uses is outstanding and practically puts you right there by his side. His story of courage and honor is one of the best I have ever read. I chose to read this as a "beach" read and did not regret a single minute.

What an amazing story of courage. I thank God for men like Marcus Luttrell and the men that fought and died along side of him. We need more men like him and the SEALs that selflessly serve our country.

A captivating read, that is completely true! How hard is that to find? Well it's here. This story of bravery, sacrifice, and brotherhood is second to none in military tales. I've read this book time and time again, and I find myself just as shocked, and quite literally blown away every time I finish it. The story of these men, and the things they go through (even before they finish training) is mind blowing. If you want to feel like you've been hit with a hammer, but can't get enough read this book.

I read this book so you don't have to. When I was in the military, I met many heroes/survivors/warriors. You know the one thing they never told me? How awesome they are. This book is rife with self-aggrandizement and propaganda. I would have preferred if the book just told me the story of Operation Redwing. If you are going to read this book, don't begin any sooner than page 160.

I loved learning about the background of the SEAL training and of course, the incident itself is so horrific and fascinating that you can't help but like the book. There are a few touches of humor thrown in that help lighten the mood at times. However I could not get over the multiple, multiple rants about the "liberal media" and how the "liberal media" is always looking for them to make a mistake so they can call them murderers. While it's his book any may be his opinion, the complete overuse of this particular rant calls into question capabilities of both his co-author and his editor. Without that tired, overworked editorializing, this really could have been a 5-star book because the story itself and the men in the story are all 5-star.

I thought this was very well written (perhaps in large part due to Patrick?) and I really did feel like I was in the moment every step of the way. I didn't care much for the frequent negativity about liberals but this was his story and his opinion. I'm a liberal by the way... And I still enjoyed every bit of this book. It gave me a new respect for what these SEALS go through. Sure, he does pat himself on the back a lot but hey, he should. Even if half of what he went through is true, he should be proud of himself. At least he did something to deserve the pat on the back and more..

True story about a Seal Team that was engaged in a fierce battle in Afghanistan in 2005 where only one Seal survived. I was disappointed that the entire book was not 100% factual and many of the facts seemed embellished when they really did not need to be.

Quick read. I was so engrossed that once I picked the book up I hardly set it down. If you know nothing of the teams - it's a good intro. If you do - you'll respect them even more.

I'm not normally into military novels but this actual portrayal of events of a US Navy SEAL was fascinating from start to finish. Not trained as a writer but Marcus Lutterell was able to wield the written word just as well as shooting a rifle. Full of great information and moments where you felt absolutely immersed in the situation. This was one book that I could not put down and lead to a many a late night.

Very interesting to learn how SEAL training works. The story of Marcus' team's mission and everything that followed - really compelling. But I am of an opposite political view than the writers and found the constant refrains about the the evils of liberals and the American media, alongside glowing words about George W. Bush just a bit much to take. I have total respect for the work of the Navy SEALS, though, and I learned a lot from this first-person account. This book just wasn't a good fit for me.
