After watching the movie I decided to read the book. I am so glad that I did. It was wonderfully well written and very informative. Another reviewer said it was all about Marcus Luttrell patting himself on the back. I disagree. The beginning of the book was about becoming a Navy SEAL, no small accomplishment. Military personnel should demonstrate a pride in theirselves and in our country., and their fellow service members. Look at what the drop out rate for every SEAL class is, he should be proud. The part about the Red Wings mission showed just how much vulnerability, strength of character and mind, courage, and love of self, country, and fellow team members our Special Forces and military men/ women have to have. He lost 4 very good friends, including his best friend, on that mountain and feels that loss every day. He makes sure that we know just how much he is still effected by this. I am very glad that I chose to read this book.

If allowed, this would be a 2.5 star rating. Once the story of Luttrell's survival gets going, it's a very compelling one. However, prior to that, you must get through his rants about "the liberal media" and "liberal politicians" who he pretty much scapegoats for the disaster that befell his team.

Though not a well written book, the story of survival is enough of a hook to make the experience worth finishing.

Incredible story.

This was one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. I would suggest listening to the audiobook!

I absolutely loved this book. One of the best, for sure!

But I have to say, the last review or any reviews with two or less stars are bull. I'm sorry. But this is Marcus Luttrell's story. He wrote HIS book for his fallen friends so people would know the true story. He wrote 100 pages about his training to give insight on every single Navy SEAL battle to even become what they are. They have every reason to be confident and carry his head high. EVERY reason.

My respect for every SEAL is through the roof and I owe this book for the knowledge I wouldn't have known otherwise.

PLEASE read this book. Respect Marcus and all he has been through which is a hell of a lot more than 99% of most North Americans can say they've gone through.

Prayers. :)
