Still so relevant. I loved the experimental format and the extent to which film direction was incorporated. Definitely reminded me of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. I found all of their queer experiences tangibly relatable, especially in regard to a search for authenticity. The narrator’s observations characterize peers in a fascinating way, giving the reader a sense of what people are like, but even more so reveal the self-delusion of the narrator.

this novel had so many lines that struck me so hard as a College Student and i’m not sure i’ve read a book that has delved into the intricacies of love and depression like this one did. it felt a bit disjointed, which i think was maybe the point, but i didn’t love that as much. i also know that this is probably 10x better in the original language … every act of translation is an act of betrayal yeah yeah

I was really excited to read this, but had a lot of trouble connecting with it overall…
