Review from C, age 11: story is funny and adventurous.
Grump is a fractured fairy tale told from one of Snow White’s dwarfs POV. Readers of all ages will not only fall in love with, but relate to Grump. He is different from other dwarfs, but doesn’t let that hold him back. Make sure to add this to your preorder list!
This is a fun story! Following in the tradition of her other books Schurtliff imagines how the dwarf Grump came to be and it doesn’t disappoint. Love the attention to even the littlest details of the story. 3.5 ⭐️
Enjoyable. It is a children’s book but not written in a juvenile way so it is also suitable for adults.
Hurrah for reimagined fairytales! This book tells the fabulous alternative story of how Borlen the dwarf - also known as Grump - came to meet six other dwarves, an evil Queen and a young princess called Snow White. Things happened very differently in this version of the fairy tale!
I loved this story and this series. It’s one of my favorites to recommend to my MG readers. This one did not disappoint. Grump is a sweet dwarf who is fascinated with the surface. He’s not really Grumpy, just misunderstood. And of course, humans always get the story wrong. I’m glad I got the real (fairly true) story.
