Good read. Not what you would expect. Chapters occasionally jump from character's perspective
Graphic: Murder
So the Stalker is about well obviously a stalker who is also a serial killer. We are first introduced to Margot Silverman, chief Police officer, National Criminal Investigation Department (Sweden), they are watching a small clip that was sent to them before the first murder is committed. It's voyeuristic in nature. The murdered woman in her last moments. The victims face is completely brutalised to the point it's not even recognisable. They ask for the assistance of Erik Maria Bark, an expert forensic psychiatrist and also a hypnotist to get information from a witness. From there on in we learn the history of a similar murder nine years ago and how someone else was wrongly convicted and that the serial killer is still on loose.
The story has its strength, the characters and their environment is solid but I felt it dragged in certain places. It's five thirty pages long and certainly tests my patience. But the serial killer is seriously weird and scary. One of the best villains I have read this year purely based on the fact that they managed to scare me. Ha.

Innostuin lukemaan uudelleen tämän kirjan, jonka kuuntelin äänikirjana reilut pari vuotta sitten, jotta on helpompi jatkaa Joona Linna -sarjan seuraavaan osaan, Kaniininmetsästäjät. Tykkään kyllä paljon enemmän paperisen kirjan lukemisesta kuin äänikirjan kuuntelemisesta, varsinkin tällaisten dekkarien kohdalla, joissa välillä täytyy tarkistaa aiemmin mainittuja asioita. Piinaavan jännä, mutta tätä tiiliskivikirjaa olisi voinut typistää lyhyemmäksi.
i really liked it. i haven't read any of the previous books so it took me a little while to get familiarized with the characters but it is a good story and written really well. there were many story lines and i didn't think the author would be able to tie them all together but they did!

The fifth outing for Joona Linna and, after the shock ending to The Sandman, he finds himself in a very different place both personally and professionally. Indeed he doesnt even feature in this story for a while into proceedings.
Someone is stalking seemingly random strangers, filming them and then sending the clips to police ahead of brutally and graphically killing them. DS Margot Siverman is in charge of the case and psychiatrist Erik Maria Bark (who we met in previous novels) also gets involved to delve into the past of what could be a connected potential witness.
Lars Keplar has a great habit of keeping the reader on their toes and there are more twists and turns than a pit full of snakes, especially in the final third, one of which left me open mouthed!! And that's not to mention the ending, which had me searching for the title and availability of the next one in the series!! Dont you just love cliffhangers!!
Whilst the novel is long at over 600 pages, the chapters are short, the pacing good with a slow, methodical build up to a fast-paced and breathless final third which was a proper page-turner, leaving you really caring about the characters involved.
The descriptions of the stalker victims are pretty graphic, leaving the reader in no doubt about the brutality of the attacker, so this not for the faint hearted, but overall it's a worthy addition to an enjoyable series.

Let’s be honest, it’s Lars Kepler so It wouldn’t receive anything less than 5 stars!
This is my absolute favourite in this series, the shocks and the thrilling chase just made for a perfect read that I couldn’t put down.
