I'm more confused than anything else by this story. It's not particularly transgressive, not particularly erotic, not particularly ironic, not particularly beautifully written. To be fair, I also found Lolita a very dull read, so maybe I just need snappier plots and more chase sequences in my paedophilic tales. Genuinely nonplussed. It's a lot more boring than the blurb suggests, but it's a short read, so don't let my lack of positive feedback stop you from being similarly unimpressed.

2.5**

Probably not the strongest GMM book to start with, given the average rating, and I didn’t really get anything out of the book. Given that the concept is basically begging for 100 pages meditating on love and mortality, too many of them meandered around the journalist’s daily life and somehow made a tiny novella seem really arduous

Colombians have a normal romance challenge [FAILED]

I have a love hate relationship with Gabriel Garcia Marquez's books. It's hard not to find this one overtly sexist and offensive.
