He is 90!? Ok, I was honestly stumped on how to write a review for this book, so I read some reviews on it for inspiration.
I have read enough literary works that I can see that they often use taboo topics to send a broader message. So I understand that the author is using this scenario to send a message. An old man bought a night with a 14 year old virgin for his 90th birthday. Instead of having sex with her, he ends up falling in love with the fantasy of her. She becomes his muse, which results in a shift in his work, and therefore his life. Showing that no matter what age you are, your life is not over until you are dead.
I get that, I see it, it’s still has pedophilia. I understand I am supposed to put myself in the protagonists mind. I did that for 115 pages. I saw through his eyes, and he himself admits that he is awful. Despite the beautiful prose, my concern remained (and still remains) on the child. Lengthy descriptions were given on her naked body, but her one speaking line seemed to be gibberish she said in her sleep.
I can see this book has good writing, I can see the overall message the writer was trying to send, I can also see the pedophila. Just because Peg A was not put into slot B, doesn’t mean there is no pedophila. Good writing is not enough for me put that aside.
