This slim novel's premise is off-putting: a man wishes to celebrate his 90th birthday in the erotic company of a virginal 14-year-old girl. The story as a whole is off-putting, but it's also beautiful in a way in the way it's written and in the exploration of love and sex this old man has been engaged in for decades.
