I wouldn’t have liked this book had I not seen the show. The writing style wasn’t for me, and I didn’t love the pacing of the story. The book kept me interesting though and I did really enjoy reading about the characters and stories from the show, so I will probably read the rest of the series

I love the British TV series of the same title based on this memoir, and it’s been a long time coming for me to finally read this!

I definitely prefer the TV series because it allows me to become more fully ingrained and engaged in the stories Jenny told, but the book was highly enjoyable. I loved seeing how well the TV show portrayed the characters from the book, most were pretty spot on, with some deviations that worked well for TV.

I also felt that reading the book allowed me to see more of what was in Jenny’s head. On the TV series she was very standoffish and hard to like, but in the book I was able to see her true personality that was hard to show on screen.

The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it lost steam near the end. The tales became less interesting to me and some dragged on.

On a whole, this is an enjoyable read and I absolutely recommend it, especially if you enjoy the TV series! I will certainly be getting the audio for the second book from my local library in the future.
