There are so many things to love about this book from the shenanigans of Virginia to the recalcitrance of Lord Caterham. For heaven's sake, in addition to the murder mystery, there's political intrigue and a missing jewel and blackmail letters and secret passages, oh my!
But
If there is an ethnic group to disparage, Christie finds a way. Always disheartening to find a good puzzle and a story with notable surprises only to have to pick your way through ethnic slurs and casual racism. So...reader, beware.

1) I love mysteries stories (+1) and Agatha Christie writes some of the best classic in the genre (+1) where all the characters are interesting and intelligent (+1)
2) The performance is one of the best I have encountered (+1) ... making this book a 7 out of 5
Over the course of 8+ hrs you are treated to an evolving mystery that will keep you fully engaged and constantly guessing about what is really going on all the way to the end with an mysterious crime boss vs scotland yard and a dashing hero that nobody really knows ... it's a fun ride!

Sloooooow burn on this one. Enjoyed the last third but it didn’t snap. Didn’t hate it; probably won’t read again. Fun to read in conjunction with other works by Christie; would not be as fun as a stand-alone.
