I'm CRAVING at this point for some Sherlock background. childhood, connections, interests and...idk...maybe some EMOTIONS¿¿¿ I'm aware that the main feature of the detective is his extreme cleverness and presumed lack of empathy during investigations but it wouldn't be a problem to dig deeper into the character so as to make him more "human", plus the reader could feel much closer to the story.
Interesting plot, maybe a little bit dense sometimes.
Watson being a sweetheart as always.

I could not but think what a terrible criminal he would have made had he turned his energy and sagacity against the law, instead of exerting them in its defense.

Meh.
First was better and hopefully others will be too.
Written in another time but racism was there.
Mystery was only okay.

Welp, that was extremely uncomfortable to read. I've seen others say there were racist "undertones" but idk... these "undertones" sure were bloody LOUD, I was horrified.
I really loved the first sherlock book but this installment, racism aside, was nowhere near as interesting. The plot was fairly average/boring and the characters didn't have the same magic or rapport. Mary and Watson were pretty cute but very rushed.
Toby the dog is the only saviour of this book.
