I'm glad I read it and I'm glad I got through it but maybe it's a book that needs to be read again.
Dorothea might be one of the best fictional characters ever created.
Good story, but incredibly dense.
Takes commitment to get through, but I enjoyed it once I got beyond the introductory portions of the book.

A masterpiece! I think she is the female version of Dickens, Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky. Her writing is exquisite, her insights on human nature are on point.
Definitely a new favourite, that I’ll be happy to read again.
Also, I highly recommend the audiobook read by Juliet Stevenson. She’s a great narrator and amazingly good at giving each character a different voice and personality (and there is quite a number here!)

So slow, so boring, I didn’t care for the characters or their (in my opinion) small problems
