I cried so hard after finishing this book I had a headache for three days. That said, it is one of the best books I have ever read and I think about it often.

finished this last month. It was the 2nd time I read it. It a a fictional story set with non fiction history and observation about life in india during the "emergency"
it is heart wrenching but also beautiful in many ways. Good choice for a book club

Sooo sad. Audibly gasping on public transportation sad.

This was depressing as heck and was emotionally draining to read. However, I fell in love with these characters and I loved watching their relationships grow and change. The writing was fantastic and drew me into their worlds. One of my new favourite reads.

My all-time favorite novel!

Outstanding.

I feel like I would have liked it better if it had been shorter. I got bitter that I was still reading the same book and started to resent it #fearofcommitment...

Compelling and gut-wrenching. A true pager turner that will leave you feeling very down on humanity.

A truly wonderful read. I learned so much about India, and the evocation of the characters was just brilliant. Despite being over 500 pages, I just couldn't put it down.

In the end, it's all a question of balance.
