One of the first forays into recorded history for the sake of history, The Histories are so very intriguing. There's no real basis, and Herodotus just wings it. He starts on a subject and goes until he's finished, even if it means meandering through four other seemingly unrelated things. It's a glimpse into the mind of someone writing about history while also living through history - and despite its being over two millennia old, it's just as human as today. 8.5/10.

A great journey with lots of insights. Will try to read first few books that make The Histories again. Due to my preference of anthropology over fighting, out of the 9 books the 2nd was my favorite.
