I'm confused.

Hmmmm... Not sure about this one. Unfortunately I couldn't connect to the story and didn't really understand the point of it all. I was secretly hoping this would blow my socks off to encourage me to read A Gentleman in Moscow alas it wasn't to be.

The idea was good but the focus on the projection of life did not seem to be satisfying enough. If there had been some interesting projections like genetic issues or something serious, seeing different projections would've been more meaningful.

Interesting, but ultimately unsatisfying. Would-be father deals with an IVF firm that goes a bit overboard in its projections, both for clients' offspring, and for the clients themselves. I was curious where it was going in the beginning, but then it really didn't seem to go anywhere, and I was relieved it was over.

Nudaw?

The story takes a common sci-fi concept (genetic engineering) and uses it to tell a much more compelling g story than the usual one. Instead of Gattaca, we get the small and personal story of a man (the potential father) coming to terms with this life choices. And I loved this quiet little story.

3/5⭐️ I liked it.

This one is about a fertility clinic that does genetic engineering, where parents can choose the gender, traits and personality of their future kids.

Rather than to focus on the ethics of this theme, the story focuses on the personal side, the doubts and struggles of the guy about to decide the profile of his future kid.

It was interesting but the ending was underwhelming.

Spoiler
When sam is at the clinic they present to him three short films of the possible lives o the three profiles his wife has pre selected. He doesn't like any of them, and the whole process has him questioning his own life choices. At the end he removes his sperm sample from the clinic.

Great read! This story really makes you think. It’s a story about Sam who gets to look into the possible lives his future child could lead. Very interesting, definitely recommend.

My least favorite of the Forward Series, which is surprising because of how much I love Amor Towles. His writing is beautiful and I enjoyed the first 2/3rds of the story but the ending never really came clear to me. I think I understand what eventually happened but it just doesn't as clear as the introduction and the build up. Very high concept.

David Harbor narrates and he's excellent.
