I know this is a “cozy mystery,” but I was ultimately disappointed by the book. It was super short and many threads were left hanging. Despite this, the ending wrapped up neatly, which was not convincing. The characters and setting have a lot of promise but ultimately, this book fell flat for me.

This is a quick, light read that I found enjoyable. The characters are as good as the mystery-- the recipes are a bonus.

Almost a novella, very short. Easy breezy mystery, not a bad way to spend an hour or so.

Another fun adventure with Annabelle Dixon, the crime-fighting vicar of Upton-St-Mary. This time, she helps the police solve the murder of the new owner of a local manor. She must sift through increasingly ridiculous village gossip - Was the dead man attempting to start a brothel?...Was he a werewolf?...Was he killed by a werewolf?...Another mystery Annabelle must solve: Who's been stealing Philippa's delicious cupcakes? A great summer read, full of laugh-out-loud moments. I love how Annabelle wheedles her way into the investigation so well, the cops don't think twice about letting a civilian in on their investigation! Did I also mention there are recipes? You can make the wonderful goodies the characters enjoy in the book! :)

I enjoy light, cozy mysteries at bedtime, and this series is perfect for that. The Reverend Annabelle has a knack for finding mysteries and stumbling into their resolutions.

Murder at the Mansion. I was a bit disappointed, I really enjoyed the first book. This book still follows Reverend Annabelle Dixon's adventure, now in Upton St Mary away from the city. As she was making her everyday task in greeting new comers, she stumbled into a crossbow and arrow murder. As nosy and investigative Annabelle was, she was able to help the detectives to connect the puzzles and solve the case. Jealousy and Love was the reason on why sir John Cartwright was murder.

Funny how Philippa accused Annabelle of Klepto. It was a light and fun read.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

It's a nice cosy book, I like the atmosphere and characters. The story just fell flat, the killer was not someone you could guess so I was disappointed.

Cute mystery

It kind of drug along in spots but it was a cute mystery. It needed a little bit more depth to it than what it had.
