An enjoyable romp. While intentional, the "just the facts" recollection of Cain's narrative means a lack of detail on anything outside of the protagonist. I want to know more about the side characters, locations, and what goes on outside of the immediate battles.

Very entertaining and easy to get into. Not deep but then again, imo not everything needs to be. An adventure book was just what I wanted to read at the time and it fits this description nicely. It's also a feel-good book despite the setting, which I think is an achievement for the author. Looking forward to the rest of the series but will parse them out.

A unique and worthy read, best appreciated by established fans of the Warhammer Universe, the Ciaphas Cain series pokes at the ridiculousness of the aforementioned universe, while still bringing a unique flair and an interesting story.
