The Incarnations series is Anthony's more mature work, but it still suffers from being in that bizarre zone where the characters sound like your grandparents but behave and think like teenagers (or some reasonable facsimile thereof).

However, the series is cherished and beloved despite its awkward bits for good reason: it's fun. And really, seeing as that was Anthony's actual goal, well done.

Today's reader will need to forgive very little considering the book's age, though there is one scene that might concern some as they approach.

The world building was fun and using a sales pitch to explain the world was such a great hook, but oh my god in 20 pages there was so much sexism and misogyny I paused to check the reviews to see if it was actual commentary because it was so egregious. Not commentary. Also I guess the sexual assault of a 10yo boy is HIS FAULT?! Nope nope nope. Apologies to anyone I talked about this book to.
